Ol' Richard's Sausage and Bean Soup

1 pound Italian sausage -- Hot or mild depending on Taste 

(NOTE : For the Sausage a good recommendation is Johnsonville Spicy Italian. This comes in a 5 link package that is slightly more than a pound.)

1 Onion -- chopped
1 clove garlic -- feel free to add more
16 ounces butter beans -- drained and rinsed
16 ounces great northern beans -- drained and rinsed
15 ounces black beans -- drained and rinsed
10 1/2 ounces beef broth
14 1/2 ounces diced tomatoes
4 1/2 ounces green chilies -- small can or two
1 tablespoon minced fresh basil -- or 1 teaspoon dried basil
1/4 cup shredded Parmesan cheese -- as a topping

In pan brown sausage (skin removed and meat crumbled up), onion, garlic till brown and drain

save some of the pan drippings to put into the pot for flavor

Put the sausage, onion, garlic and pan drippings in a large soup pot along with all other ingredients (except parmesan cheese)

Let simmer for 30-40 minutes

Serve into soup bowls and top with shredded parmesan cheese
